The Maple
Center's Doula Program
What is a Doula?
A doula accompanies a woman in labor and mothers the mother, while taking care of her emotional needs throughout childbirth. A doula also provides support and suggestions for partners that can enhance their experiences of birth. Giving birth to a baby is so much more than a physical phenomenon; it engages parents-to-be in a transformational experience, a key life event full of emotion and meaning.
Our Doulas Make a Difference!
Many women have different needs during labor and childbirth. In addition to the love and companionship from their partners and their medical caregivers, women need continuous reassurance and constant support, encouragement and respect. They need individualized care based on their circumstances and preferences.
Our doulas are educated and experienced in childbirth.
They are prepared to provide emotional support before, during and after labor and delivery. They provide physical (non medical) comfort measurers, as well as informational support to women and their partners. They offer a loving touch that makes women and their families feel nurtured and cared for.
If you are interested in having a doula contact The Maple Center or call Annette Alexander, Doula Coordinator at: (812)239-5643.
Doula’s are available for all women in the community. You do not need to be a patient at The Maple Center to receive this service.
