Kathleen A. Stienstra, MD
Medical
director of the Union Hospital Maternal Health Clinic,
Faculty for the Union Hospital Family Medicine
Residency, and family physician with the Maple Center’s
Integrative Care Center is one of the first group of
physicians to become board certified in Holistic
Medicine. Her training in family medicine has
included a longstanding interest in women’s health as
well as holistic or integrative medicine. She is
also trained in medical acupuncture. She is a
graduate of Iowa State University, the University of
Iowa School of Medicine, and Memorial Medical Center’s
Family Practice Residency in Corpus Christi, TX.
Dr. Sandra
Hendrich
Dr. Sandra Hendrich is a physical therapist with
specialized training from Guangzhou University of
Traditional Chinese Medicine, Guangzhou, P.R. China,
where she studied acupuncture, moxibustion,
auriculotheray, cupping, pointing therapy, and Chinese
manual techniques. Dr. Hendrich’s PT training was at
Indiana University School of Medicine and she recently
completed a doctorate in Physical Therapy through Des
Moines University. She will be offering laser treatment
and electrical stimulation to acupuncture sites (rather
than needles) as well as physical therapy with a focus
on manual (soft tissue and deep tissue) techniques. Her
special interests include working with people who have
chronic painful musculoskeletal conditions, fibromyalgia
and those seeking self-help techniques. Sandra has
attended multiple continuing education courses over the
years including the McKenzie approach to the treatment
of spinal disorders, TENS and acupressure, Myofascial
Release, Strain-Counterstrain and many others which she
incorporates along with her training from China to
provide a unique therapy experience. She will begin
seeing clients on Tuesday mornings beginning May 13th.

Chris
Leininger
Chris Leininger is an Asian bodywork therapist. He is a
nationally certified Medical Qigong Practitioner, a
Certified Acupressure Massage Therapist. Following years
of treatment (including nine months of intravenous
antibiotics) for Chronic Lyme Disease, he was left with
disabling Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue
Syndrome, and many other ailments. In an effort to
regain his own mobility, his journey into Chinese
medicine began. Chris studied Medical Qigong with Master
Binhui He of Hong Kong, known in China as the "Cancer
Conqueror". He has also studied with Master Wan Su Jian
of Beijing (appointed captain of the medical team for
the 2008 Olympics) during both of his U.S. tours.
Additionally, he studied at the Acupressure Institute to
become a Certified Acupressure Massage Therapist and
also earned an advanced specialization in Women’s
Health. His special interests include women’s health
issues and working with individuals. He will be seeing
clients at The Maple Center on Wednesday afternoons

Stephanie Van Sickel

Stephanie is a Certified Reflexologist having
completed her studies through the International
Institute of Reflexolgoy in 2000, the original
school for reflexology in the United States.
Stephanie is also a Certified Massage Therapist
since 1999, having obtained her certification from
the American Certified Massage School in Crown
Point, Indiana. Certification in pregnancy massage
was obtained in 2000 and in 2006 Stephanie completed
her certification as a Birth Doula (labor coach)
through the country's premier doula association
(DONA). In addition, she holds a Bachelor of Science
degree in Psychology and Child Development from the
California State University, San Luis Obispo. Before
moving to this area she ran practices in Sonoma
County, California and Valparaiso, Indiana, and now
continues to enjoy her business in Terre Haute. For
ten years Stephanie has been involved in helping
people through various modes of bodywork. With her
background in psychology, child development, and art
she brings creativity, sensitivity, humor,
compassion, and intuitive insights to her clients
and their stress-related problems. Working with all
ages, from children to nonagenarians, she brings
wisdom and caring, enthusiasm and understanding for
those who have experienced bodywork before and those
who have not. Since 2002, Stephanie has seen clients
at Sisters of Providence Healthcare where she
administers massage and/or reflexology to Sisters,
as well as to staff. She has also provided chair
massage for many various businesses, events and
fairs around Vigo and Marion Counties. Currently
Stephanie's newest role is as Coleman Cancer
Foundation Integrative Therapy Coordinator. There
she represents The Maple Center to the patients of
Dr. Huh, educating them to the integrative therapies
being offered by The Maple Center, all the time
working in conjunction with traditional cancer
treatments. She is extremely proud to be helping
with this outstanding and very exciting project, the

David Howard Ph.D.

Reiki
is a technique that comes from Japan and is
based on the idea that unseen "life force
energy" flows through us. In Judaeo-Christian
tradition, this may be called Spirit. Reiki
is a simple, non-invasive healing system
that works to promote health and well being
of the entire physical, emotional and
spiritual body. As a system of attaining and
promoting wholeness of Mind, Body and
Spirit, the primary benefits of Reiki are
stress reduction and relaxation that trigger
the body’s natural healing abilities. Dr.
Howard received his Reiki training (2nd
Level) from Reiki Master Teacher Teri Moore
(Indianapolis). David is also a professor at
Indiana State University in the College of
Nursing, Health and Human Services. He
received his Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Science
from the University of Florida (2004) and
his Masters of Social Work Degree from the
University of Utah (1998). His areas of
specialization include coping and adjustment
after treatment for cancer, disability and
illness issues that impact human sexuality
and intimacy, and complementary and
integrative approaches to health. Dr. Howard
will begin seeing clients on Thursday
afternoons, beginning June 5th at
the Maple Center clinical offices located at
1801 North 6th Street.
