Dr. John Black
Memorial Resource Library
Part
of the original vision for The Maple Center at One
Professional Centre included adding an elevator to make
accessible an existing second floor classroom. We
envisioned teaching educational classes, tai chi, yoga
and centering pregnancy classes there. Union Hospital
agreed to apply the cost of the addition of an elevator
to their building toward the rent for The Maple Center.
After much discussion, debate, and consultation with an
architect, we arrived at a plan to develop additional
space for The Maple Center.
A
vital part of these
renovations will also include the addition of the
John Black Memorial Resource Library. In an
effort to provide our clients with access to the latest
information on integrative medicine, parenting, and
online medical resources, we plan to open this Library
in early 2007.
During
the first open house, we received a pledge of support
from Charles Toth, who represents local labor union
204. Mr. Toth was extremely helpful in obtaining
letters of labor support from 10 different labor unions
and CDI offered to serve as the general contractor with
the help of Steve Arnold, local architect.
Grant
writing, tax credits, and other capital fund raising
efforts are underway to fund these building projects.
Hopefully, with the support of The Maple Center’s
generous donors and our community, these much needed
improvements will become a reality.
“Dr John Black, founding board member of The Maple Center, exemplified
the integrative medicine physician ideal. He was an
academic, kind, excellent clinician and teacher with
a wide range of knowledge-especially in primary care
and medical acupuncture. The Maple Center is
grateful for his donation of his personal library
and for those donors who sent memorial contributions
for the John Black Memorial Resource Library planned
at The Maple Center.”
